No celebration of America’s 250th birthday is complete without whisk(e)y- after all, it played a major role in the country’s founding. Here are three bourbon-heavy recommendations for marking the July 4th weekend American style.
First up, the bourbon that’s got a youthful bite: Breckenridge Distillery’s Blended Patriotic Reserve. Notably made with water from the Rockies, and specially blended to mark the occasion, this bourbon is an easy-drinking selection that’s great neat or in a cocktail (we’d recommend a Perfect Manhattan). Whether you’re marking the holiday in the city or a backyard cookout, Breckenridge bourbon is accessible, friendly, and great for sharing.
If you’re celebrating in the great outdoors or by the beach, nothing beats the smoky Campfire blend from High West. Memorable, lightly smoky, and delicious from nose to finish, Campfire is a staple of any good whisk(e)y collection. Much like America, this blend has it all, combining peated Scotch, rye whiskey, and bourbon for a perfect sip.
Finally, what could be more American than Jefferson’s? After all, the creators, a father and son team of bourbon experts, trace their roots to an 8th grandmother who was arrested for making illegal spirits all the way back in 1799. Jefferson’s Ocean, a blend of straight Kentucky bourbons aged at sea, is the perfect bottle to enjoy on the boat as you celebrate the USA from sea to shining sea.
However you celebrate, have a fantastic Independence Day weekend! We plan to raise a rocks glass with one of these and cheers to America!
